September 12th is National Video Games Day. I can't tell you how much gaming has meant to me over the years. The first game I ever owned was Pokémon Yellow. It took me on the adventure of a lifetime and I was hooked.
Gaming has kept me connected to family and friends. It's allowed me to meet so many amazing people and become friends with a lot of them. It's helped me through tough times and played a part in shaping who I am today.
It's been an absolute joy watching gaming evolve as an art form. Today, games can tell a story that is every bit as emotional, thrilling and engaging as any other medium. It's also given my career direction. I started Game On! Magazine because I love this industry so much and I want to play a role in shining a light on stories that need to be told.
But we've also seen the ugly side of gaming. Harassment still persists. Layoffs are seemingly a weekly occurence. While we've seen some of the best games of a generation be released, we've also seen that the people who make those games are often cast aside. Gaming is a big and complicated industry. I promise to do my best to bring you stories that entertain, educate and inform you. I promise to highlight the good and the bad and to present stories in a way that don't talk down to you, but rather present a compelling story and let you form your own opinions from it.
I'm hopeful for the gaming industry. There may be some tough times ahead, but I believe the people in this industry are worth fighting for. I hope everyone has a great day today and why not take a moment and play a game.
